Abortion

The Fort Worth Pregnancy Center offers educational information about abortion including risks and complications. This center does not perform, recommend or refer for abortion.

The cost and type of abortion procedure are determined by how many weeks a woman is into the pregnancy.

Before considering the various abortion procedures, it is important to have a sonogram/ultrasound to determine viability (uterine, not ectopic (tubal) pregnancy) and gestation.

Limited Obstetrical Ultrasound:

The Fort Worth Pregnancy Center provides limited obstetrical ultrasounds to qualified clients, free of charge. A first visit, including a pregnancy test, is required.

Medical Abortion/ RU486 Pill

This chemical abortion is for termination of a pregnancy of 7 to 9 weeks.

  • At the 1st clinic visit, a physical exam is given to determine if patient cannot take mifepristone.
  • At the 2nd clinic visit, 36-48 hours later, misoprostol is given orally or vaginally to cause contractions/labor to expel the fetus and placenta. Some clinics may keep patient for 4 hours to be monitored for severe side effects, others may be given misoprostol to take at home and then deliver at home usually within 4 hours, occasionally within 2 weeks.
  • At the 3rd clinic visit, 2 weeks later, a physical exam is given to make sure the abortion was complete and no complications occurred.
  • Failure Rate: 8-10%, requiring surgical abortion and additional fees.
  • Side Effects/Risks: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, severe cramping, bleeding, infection.
